The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is praised by drivers and critics for its elegant design, advanced safety features, efficient performance, and low price. In fact, many of its features, technologies, materials, and design cues put it on par with expensive luxury vehicles.
Drivers interested in the 2019 Audi Q5, for example, may be pleased to learn that they can find the same sophistication and advanced technologies in the CX-5 — all while getting a considerably lower price and a more efficient engine.
The Audi Q5 will put a big dent in your budget, with its base model starting at $42,950. That’s nearly $19,000 more than the base MSRP of the new Mazda CX-5, which retails as low as $24,350. In fact, if you buy the Mazda CX-5’s range-topping Signature trim instead of the Audi Q5’s base trim, you’ll still be saving more than $6,000, as the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature starts at just $36,890.
Despite being significantly more affordable, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is safer than the 2019 Audi Q5, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The CX-5 earned the institute’s top rating of Top Safety Pick+. Due to low scores for its headlights, the Audi Q5 did not earn even the regular Top Safety Pick distinction.
Audi is known for designing opulent vehicles with stunning good looks. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 holds its own against the 2019 Audi Q5, thanks to Mazda’s famous and well-awarded KODO: Soul of Motion design philosophy. Though it’s purely a matter of aesthetic preference, it’s fair to argue that the Mazda CX-5 has the upper hand in terms of design.
Mazda’s SKYACTIV® technology keeps its models performing efficiently, even without hybrid engines. The 2019 CX-5, for example, is powered by a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with Cylinder Deactivation that manages up to 25 miles per gallon in the city and 31 on the highway.* The 2019 Audi Q5’s base engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged TFSI®, burns through fuel quickly with only 22 miles per gallon in the city and 27 on the highway.
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 also offers a more spacious and flexible cargo area. With rear seats folded, the 2019 CX-5 boasts up to 59.6 cubic feet of space. You’ll find only 53.1 cubic feet of space in the 2019 Audi Q5.
