2019 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2019 Honda CR-V in Edinburg, TX

2019 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2019 Honda CR-V in Edinburg, TX

Are you in the market for a sporty yet efficient compact SUV? Chances are that the 2019 Mazda CX-5 and the 2019 Honda CR-V are at the top of your list. Here’s how the two models stack up against each other.

Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2019 Mazda CX-5 the Top Safety Pick+ designation, its highest honor. The 2019 Honda CR-V also earned high ratings but couldn’t quite attain the “plus” distinction; instead, it earned a lower Top Safety Pick Rating.

Some of the CX-5’s key safety technologies include Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, a Lane Departure Warning System, Lane-Keep Assist, Adaptive Front-Lighting, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go Function.

Performance

If you crave engine power, the 2019 CX-5 is the superior SUV. The 2019 Honda CR-V’s base 2.4-liter in-line four-cylinder engine, mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission with Sport Mode, puts up a decent fight, creating 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. That’s only slightly less power than the base engine in the Mazda CX-5: a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder with Cylinder Deactivation, partnered with a SKYACTIV®-Drive six-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift and Sport Mode, which cranks out 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

However, the Honda CR-V’s optional engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, generating just 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. This engine pales in comparison to the CX-5’s optional engine: a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter Dynamic Pressure Turbo with variable valve timing. This engine produces 310 lb-ft of torque and 227 horsepower with 87 octane regular unleaded fuel or 250 horsepower with 93 octane premium unleaded fuel.

Style

Mazda has long been known for its sleek and elegant styling. While the 2019 Honda CR-V continues its dated, predictable exterior styling, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 continues to push boundaries with an athletic stance and bold lines, as part of its KODO: Soul of Motion design philosophy. Unique exterior colors include Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Eternal Blue Mica, and Machine Gray Metallic.

We are very confident that you’ll prefer the smooth ride, more powerful engines, more advanced safety features, and superior styling and technology offered by the 2019 Mazda CX-5, which is available at Bert Ogden Edinburg Mazda.
