2019 Mazda SUV Towing Capacity
The current Mazda lineup includes three capable SUVs: Mazda CX-3, Mazda CX-5, and Mazda CX-9. All three models are suitable for towing, though their towing capacity varies by model. Check out their towing specs below, and visit Bert Ogden Edinburg Mazda in Edinburg, Texas, for a test drive in your preferred SUV.
2019 Mazda CX-3
The compact 2019 Mazda CX-3 is powered by a SKYACTIV®-G 2.0-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing. This engine produces 148 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque. Because of its smaller size and efficient engine, the Mazda CX-3 should be used only for towing a small trailer, perhaps carrying a bit of luggage, bikes, or kayaks. In total, a properly-equipped Mazda CX-3 can tow up to 1,038 pounds.
2019 Mazda CX-5
The midsize, two-row 2019 Mazda CX-5 is a little more powerful than the Mazda CX-3. It takes its motivation from a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine with Cylinder Deactivation. This engine unleashes 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Alternatively, you can upgrade to a SKYACTIV®-G 2.5T Dynamic Pressure Turbo DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing that serves up 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. With this engine under the hood, a properly-equipped Mazda CX-5 can tow up to 2,000 pounds.
2019 Mazda CX-9
The largest SUV in the Mazda lineup is the three-row 2019 Mazda CX-9. This SUV is powered by the same available engine in the Mazda CX-5: the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5T Dynamic Pressure Turbo DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing, meaning it also cranks out 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. But when this engine powers the Mazda CX-9, towing capacity increases compared to the Mazda CX-5 thanks to a stronger body construction. In total, a properly-equipped 2019 Mazda CX-9 is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds.
