2020 Mazda CX-9: Top Safety Pick+ Award | Edinburg, TX

The 2020 Mazda CX-9, a Top Safety Pick+ award recipient - Bert Ogden Mazda Edinburg in Edinburg, TX

In April of 2020, Mazda announced one of its latest safety accolades. The 2020 Mazda CX-9 SUV underwent stringent safety testing with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. After testing, the organization awarded the Mazda CX-9 with its highest honor: the Top Safety Pick+ award. That officially makes Mazda the automaker with the most Top Safety Pick+ distinctions for 2020.

Other 2020 models in the Mazda lineup to have earned this award include the Mazda CX-3 and Mazda CX-5 SUVs, as well as the Mazda3 Sedan and Mazda3 Hatchback. The Mazda6 is also a Top Safety Pick+ winner.

In order to earn this high honor, Mazda vehicles had to achieve “good” ratings (the highest that the institute awards) across all six crashworthiness evaluations. The test categories are driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, roof strength, side, and head restraints and seats. In addition, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 earned an “advanced” and “superior” rating for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian crash testing, respectively. Finally, the 2020 CX-9 earned the “good” rating for its headlights on models built after December 2019, thus earning it the Top Safety Pick+ distinction.

Among the Mazda CX-9’s i-ACTIVSENSE® safety technologies are Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, a Lane Departure Warning System with Lane-keep Assist, an Adaptive Front-Lighting System, Traffic Sign Recognition, High Beam Control, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Smart Brake Support with Collision Warning.
