IIHS Scores for the 2019 Mazda6

A few days ago, the Bert Ogden Mazda Blog brought you some news about how the 2019 Mazda6 ranks among the easiest vehicles for installing a child’s car seat. Today, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety dropped some insights into how the rest of the sedan can protect every passenger. The IIHS scores for the 2019 Mazda6 place the sleek and responsive vehicle in the top tier of its class with its latest Top Safety Pick award for models using specific headlights. This isn’t an award that the IIHS hands out freely and there are a lot of vehicles on the market that can’t make this claim. Let’s take a look at what sets the 2019 Mazda6 apart from its competition.

In order to qualify for the safety agency’s list of the safest cars on the market, the evaluators had to destroy a few to collect the necessary data. The Mazda6 scored a perfect score of ‘Good’ in all six of the IIHS’ categories, including the very difficult driver-side small overlap front and moderate overlap front. Beyond simply being able to absorb an impact, IIHS engineers are counting on automakers to utilize all available technology to try to prevent accidents from happening in the first place.

The 2019 Mazda6 is among the first of the automaker’s models to make the Mazda i-Activsense features standard equipment. A list of these innovative systems includes Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Lake-Keep Assist and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with stop-and-go functionality.can’t
