Mazda joins industry pledge to make its vehicles even safer

Mazda has signed a pledge with several of the top vehicle manufacturers operating in the United States to bring some kind of rear-seat reminder to its vehicles by the 2025 model year, or sooner.

There aren’t any details available about how a Mazda rear seat reminder system would work. Automakers that already include this feature have taken a few different approaches to the same goal of helping tired or distracted parents to look in the back seat. An important part of the pledge is for companies like Mazda to offer visual, audio and smartphone-based alerts. This could come in the form of flashing headlights; a few honks of the horn and/or notifications being sent directly to an owner’s smartphone.
