A few more details leak out about a potential new Mazda power plant
How much horsepower will the new Mazda engine make?
At the beginning of the month, we brought some wishful thinking that bordered on speculation about a potentially high-performing engine that could appear in new Mazda vehicles. More recently, we came across another article that shed a bit more light on what could be seen at the Tokyo Motor Show, which opens for business in about a week. So, how much horsepower will the new Mazda engine make? It’s important to note that we don’t know anything that would stand up in a court of law as evidence, but this newest article from TheDrive.com and author Jonathon Klein gives Mazda fans quite a lot to look forward to. Let’s take a look at what we might see from Tokyo.

More horsepower coming to Mazda vehicles
The newest engine option that is supposedly coming to a rumored reboot of the Mazda RX platform is an all-new 3.0-liter, inline six-cylinder engine making about 350 horsepower. It is also being reported that this new engine will be a member of the long-rumored SKYACIV®-X family of Mazda power plants. What’s more is that this engine could also be paired with an all-new mild-hybrid system. The Bert Ogden Mazda Blog staff is quite certain that more information will be available in the near future. But suffice it to say that a mild-hybrid would be a game-changer.
For the uninitiated, a mild-hybrid system works by attaching a small, but powerful electric motor to the gasoline-powered engine. Basically, it takes some of the workload from the gasoline engine which will directly translate into additional fuel economy. It may even add additional torque to the vehicle’s performance output scores.
Of course, no story about a Mazda engine would be complete without some rotary engine speculation. There is still a not-insignificant portion of online conjecture that says the coming Mazda hybrid system will be paired with the mythical rotary engine.
